The Coalition is working hard to improve Greenway Safety, including organizing volunteers on Trail Watch rides that started early May 2009. We need your help! If enough people join/donate, we can keep up this work. Also, if you want to be a Trail Watch rider, learn more from our Trail Watch page (from home page, go to Trail Users, then Safety, visit our trail watch site.
For your safety, seek other trail users to buddy up with after dark and call 911 to report anything suspicious. If you must bike alone at night, behave as you would anywhere in the city and avoid loitering/stationary pedestrians because sometimes they have accomplices hiding nearby.
Also visit the safety homepage for more information on safe rider tips and more.

Robbery and assault. 11/7/09, Saturday, approx. 1:30 a.m., Hiawatha Avenue and East 28th Street. According to recent news sources, at about 1:30 am on November 7th there was an attempted robbery and attack by Hiawatha and E 28th St. The two robbers punched the robbery victim and demanded money. The robbery victim responded by stabbing one of the robbers who later died at the hospital. The MGC is distressed that there was yet one more attempted robbery on the Greenway, while also mourning a young life lost. Impending police investigations have yet to determine whether the stabbing reaction by the robbery victim was appropriate.
